In September 2002, Travis Parker, Jesse Grandkoski and Paul Miller sat in the basement of Travis’s Portland, Oregon home brainstorming names for their new project. They were unsettled by the too-serious state that had fallen over the snowboard industry; they envisioned a brand that would remind people what snowboarding was all about: FUN. By the end of the day Airblaster was born, a vehicle to promote having fun snowboarding, with your friends.
Airblaster began that day with the short-term goal of creating just four products: three t-shirts and a beer koozie. Although the koozie took the better part of a decade to materialize, that brainstorm session in the basement was the start in the direction they dreamt of. Soon after, Airblaster designed an Air Leash designed to be so wild… that you could only wear if you weren’t taking yourself or snowboarding too seriously. After an overwhelmingly positive response to the Air Leash and the message it carried, Airblaster recognized that the message transcended the leash and applied perfectly to other products within snowboarding. In the early catalogs, the colors were wild and the products were out of the ordinary, but everything was created with function and fun in mind. It became Airblaster’s mission to create Original Fun Product, otherwise known as OFP.
Today, with an entire line of outerwear, base layer, goggles, technical mid-layers, and streetwear, Airblaster still delivers its message through its products. This winter, Airblaster will offer signature pieces designed by Travis Parker, Nick Dirks and Jed Anderson. Airblaster encourages their entire team to be involved through the design process, in order to deliver the most quality and functional outerwear pieces possible.
Over the years Airblaster has established strong relationships with some great human beings and some amazing snowboarders. This group of awesome folks makes up what is known as the Airblaster Family, which continues to grow daily. Today Jed Anderson, Nick Dirks, Brandon Cocard, Tim Eddy, Leanne Pelosi, and Travis Parker make up the Team who are the primary faces of Airblaster. An Airblaster Team Rider not only has to rip on their snowboard, but they also have to be a great person who already lives the brand’s ideals of fun, family, and freedom. These talented riders were picked not only because of their world class riding, but also because of their positive outlook on snowboarding and their ability to share that experience with others.
Nine years after the birth of the Air Leash, Airblaster is still focused on the philosophy that drove the three co-founders to create a snowboard company: Have fun snowboarding with your friends! This season, Airblaster is excited to deliver a complete line of Original Fun Products that meet and exceed the needs of snowboarders today.
